Concierge We haven't even checked in yet but Melody and Jannes at the Concierge Desk have been incredible assistance in planning our family vacation for Thanksgiving. True excellence in customer service

Stayed here on re-opening day back in 2008. I can't even begin to tell you how awesome this place is. We arrived, the staff opened the doors and descended upon us like bees on flowers, we were whisked away to the desk and checked in and then quickly shown to our room. I have no idea how they do it but it was dead silent in that hotel once you were in the elevator. I mean the middle of Manhattan and total silence! Our private butler gave us the tour of the room, crazy opulent and brand new, the joint still smelled of fresh gold plating! The staff is so on the ball they will take care of whatever you need or want, just ask! On our second night I was pretty drunk at 3 am and had a hankering for a lamb shank and some mussels for an appetizer, I picked up the phone by the time I got it to my ear there was a voice good morning Mr. R.... your butler is not available, my name is ___ how can I satisfy your needs? Seriously... 30 minutes later while my wife was slumbering comfortably under 7 layers of Egyptian cotton and a thick black bear fur comforter I was gnawing on the most delicious lamb shank I have had on the North American continent, all fairness, the lamb was imported from New Zealand. I tipped everyone that wore a name tag and made eye contact with me, I was shameless but they deserved it! We paid $1100 USD a night and honestly it was worth every penny. I'll be back.

Ah, the Plaza. An institution. I've been to some fun parties here -- and the mythology of the place just makes it one of my favorites. Go, pretend you're Eloise. Then take a stroll in Central Park.

sumptuous I have to beg to differ on those critics who complained of shabiness. Our experience for one night 1/28/2010 while attending the met opera was unforgettable. We had a corner suite, great service, comfy bed, old world elegance and superb breakfast pastries. I enjoyed myself very much and think those that complain suffer from nouveau riche-itis.
